What a year…

It has now been one year since that afternoon when I learned I had Cancer and what a wild ride it has been.

Many of you have been on my journey alongside me since the beginning and some of you have joined me more recently. Regardless I appreciate all the support and encouragement you have provided me as I have learned to navigate this stage of my life. Saying “it takes a village” is an understatement.

So where do things stand? Overall, things have been progressing quite well. As you know last summer I had chemo followed up by a complex and long surgery to remove my bladder and replace it with a neobladder. The recovery from that has been slower than I had hoped with a few minor challenges along the way but all in all manageable.

Fast forward to today. I have had two follow up sets of scans and no new cancer has been identified which is great news! I have one (and hopefully final) surgery on April 23rd to remove the tumor from my kidney. Not as involved as my last surgery by a long shot but admittedly I am still a bit anxious for my family and for myself. But the anxiety doesn’t change what I know needs to be done.

From there it will be a few days in the hospital and a few weeks recovery but I expect to be back in full action to watch my amazing son Jake graduate from college on May 11. There are no better incentives in life than to make sure you are present for the milestone moments of your kids lives. I am a very lucky man and an extremely grateful father for having two spectacular children.

Anyway, I’m celebrating my one year diagnosis anniversary with a weekend to myself at the oldest original motor racetrack in the world, Goodwood Motor Circuit, watching the vintage races, meeting some amazing people, and simply appreciating the wonderful life I have and ensuring that I don’t waste a moment of it.

Today is going to be a great day!
